Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Brazoria County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 73,908 students attending Brazoria County schools, 42.6% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 28.7% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Brazoria County, comprising 42.3% of the student body.

Glenn York Elementary School had the most even distribution of races among the schools in the county, which included 28.2% Black students, 27.3% Asian students, 20.3% Hispanic students, 16.8% white students, 6.9% multiracial students, 0.4% Pacific Islander students, and 0.1% American Indian students.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 0.4%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
