Axiom Space plans more than 1,000 jobs at a 14-acre headquarters campus planned at the Houston Spaceport, the site where the company will create Axiom Station, a private space station.

The campus will include a terminal space for private astronaut operations and engineering, and a 322,000-square-foot facility for Axiom Station Modules. Axiom Space will build in the first phase of the Houston Spaceport at Ellington Field, Houston.org reported. The 400-acre Houston Spaceport was developed by the Houston Airport System.

“With Axiom Space at the Houston Spaceport, we expect to energize our workforce by adding more than a thousand high-quality jobs and engage our communities that are focused and dedicated to the STEM fields,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told Houston.org.

Axiom Station will conduct research, manufacturing and commerce in low Earth orbit.

“The opportunity to build high-bay hangers where we can assemble the Axiom Station while simultaneously training our private astronauts for missions gives us the flexibility we need as we build the future of commercial space,” Axiom Space CEO Mike Suffredini said.
