The Fort Bend County Commissioners Court is providing $2 million to CARES Act funding to help licensed child care providers in the state.

According to a news release for the Katy Area Economic Development Council, the funding will be used to help child care providers who have been impacted by COVID-19 and to support families that are facing financial instability in the county because of the pandemic. Businesses that are eligible may be eligible for up to $8,000 in assistance to help workforce families.

In order to be eligible for the funding, child care providers much be licensed in the state and must be located in Fort Bend County.

The child care providers will also have to demonstrate that they have been impacted by the pandemic and must agree to participate in the program and use the funds to assist families in need. The centers must also agree to use the funds to apply to scholarships for families that cannot afford childcare or who have become in arrears with fees due to COVID-19.
