State Rep. Ed Thompson (R-Pearland) is praising three high school students for recently collecting over 3,800 pounds of food for a local food pantry.

“I’m honored to meet community-oriented youths that are not only dedicated to their studies but also willing to work hard for the type of community they wish to live in,” Thompson said in a post on the Texas House of Representatives website. “Their dedication is humbling and I hope their example is able to inspire their peers.”

Jasmine Saenz with twins Isaiah and Stephan Torres collected the food as part of a campaign they created known as Drive by Heroes. The high schoolers started the nonprofit to bring joy to children during the COVID-19 pandemic while simultaneously helping to end hunger in the community. The trio dress up as superheroes and visit children both in-person and virtually.

In addition to collecting food for the residents in Pearland, the campaign also accepts monetary donations.
