Despite COVID-19 and business closures, the City of Friendswood collected more in sales taxes in March and April this year than it did in the same months in 2019.
The Texas city’s sales tax collections rose by 12% compared to April 2019, Community Impact Newspaper reported. That equaled $686,871. Friendswood collected even more sales tax in March.
Neighboring Pearland didn’t fare as well based on percentages, according to data from the Texas Comptroller's office. Pearland collected 3.89% less in March and 1.98% less than April compared to the same months in 2019. But the sales tax allocations for the city in April of this year were $2.4 million, approximately $50,000 less than in 2019.
For Pearland, January was the lone month when its sales tax allocations this year were higher than last year. Friendswood received less in sales tax from the first two months of the year, Community Impact reported.
