Mayes Middleton, a Texas state senator, has recently made several public statements on his social media account regarding his political standing and criticisms of local officials. On July 17, 2025, Middleton highlighted his ranking among conservative lawmakers in the state. He stated, “Honored to be named once again as one of the Top 3 Most Conservative Senators in Texas—this time by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. For seven straight years, I’ve ranked among the top of every major conservative scorecard. I don’t just talk—I fight and deliver. My lifetime https://t.co/HEsPpNNdPW”.

Two days later, on July 19, 2025, Middleton criticized Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s fiscal policies. He posted, “Outrageous, Hidalgo wants to raise taxes again.”

Later that same day, Middleton expanded his criticism with another statement targeting Judge Hidalgo’s administration: “Judge Hidalgo’s woke cartel has pillaged Harris County — and politicians profiting from their positions think our laws don’t apply to them. That ends when I’m Attorney General.”

Middleton is known for his alignment with fiscally conservative groups such as Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and has consistently received high ratings from organizations that track legislative conservatism in Texas politics over multiple years.

Lina Hidalgo serves as the elected county judge for Harris County and has faced both support and opposition regarding her budgetary decisions and broader policy agenda during her tenure.
