Mayes Middleton, Texas State Senator representing the 11th district and a Republican elected in 2023, posted several statements on his social media account on January 13, 2026. The posts addressed both sports developments in Texas and ongoing debates about transgender participation in women’s athletics.
In one of his early tweets that day, Middleton congratulated the local football team: “Congrats @HoustonTexans on advancing to the divisional round, incredible win last night!” (January 13, 2026).
Later that afternoon, he referenced recent legislative actions regarding sports participation: “.@Riley_Gaines_ and I fought the transgender lobbyists and won, kicking men out of women’s sports in Texas. I’m proud to have her endorsement in my race for AG, and now we must win this fight before the Supreme Court for all the daughters in America.” (January 13, 2026).
Shortly after, Middleton reiterated his position on the issue: “Men pretending to be women are trying to steal fairness and opportunity from actual women. I will not allow it, Texas will not allow it, and now we fight for the Supreme Court to not allow it. We’re not bending to the lefts’ delusions.” (January 13, 2026).
Middleton has been an active figure in Texas politics since winning election to replace Larry Taylor as state senator for District 11 in 2023. His recent comments align with broader legislative efforts within Texas aimed at restricting transgender athletes’ participation in women’s sports.
