Mayes Middleton, a Republican who has represented Texas’s 11th Senate district since 2023, recently used his social media platform to address several political issues, including endorsements and the use of taxpayer funds by local governments.
On July 29, 2025, Middleton expressed gratitude for an endorsement from Janis Holt. He wrote, “I’m honored to have the endorsement of Janis Holt — a fearless, rock-solid conservative who never backs down from a fight. With her support, I’ll take the fight straight to the border crisis, drug cartels, and out-of-control lawlessness. We’re going to defend Texas, crush the”.
Later that day on July 29, Middleton criticized local governments’ spending practices in another post: “Local governments should NOT be using your tax dollars to hire Austin lobbyists who work AGAINST your values.
Right now, local entities spend nearly $100 million every biennium lobbying against property tax relief, election integrity, school choice, and efforts to stop woke”.
On July 31, he further commented on this issue by stating: “Taxpayer funded lobbying is the USAID of Texas that funds the deep state, and the blocker to countless conservative bills. Let’s ban this unethical practice!”
Middleton was elected to his current position in 2023 after succeeding Larry Taylor as state senator for Texas’s 11th district. His recent statements reflect ongoing debates within Texas politics regarding government spending priorities and legislative advocacy at both state and local levels.
