The facility offered 202 total beds, which was 81 more than the Harris County average at the time. On average, 131.7 residents received care there during this period.
The CMS gave Ashford Gardens an overall rating of 3 out of 5—above the Texas nursing home average of 2.7.
For the quarter, The Vosswood Nursing Center ranked as the largest nursing home in Harris County with 224 beds available.
Through the first quarter of 2026, Ashford Gardens was assessed one fine totaling $11,009 and received one penalty.
Altogether, Harris County, Texas, counted 73 for-profit nursing homes.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older adult population continues to rise while younger demographics decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas the population under 18 fell by 1.7%. The older adult population has expanded dramatically in the past century, soaring from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that about half of this age group—roughly 28 million people—may need long-term services and support. The research also projects more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
