The Greater Houston area has seen a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, and with them, families are starting to see more and more economic trouble with each passing day.

In response, charitable foundations, corporations and even residents of Houston have donated approximately $17 million to the Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund. According to records, ConocoPhillips donated $200,000 and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. has contributed $125,000.

The Recovery Fund has, in turn, distributed $12 million in grants to local charities to help the community target urgent needs among the city's most vulnerable residents and families.

Fund organizers will pass out the remaining grant funds throughout the month of August. Organizers are inviting those who can donate to do so. Donations of any sum will help implement much-needed aid to those families who have been most impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Donations can be made at the fund website or by texting to 4144.
